Max and Bernice have been best friends for many years, attending the same teacher training college and now teaching at the same school. They also live in the same apartment block - Max downstairs alone, Bernice on the first floor with her husband and children.

The story follows Mamoru Masaki, a resort developer, and Koai, a career woman at a rival company. The appearance of Masaki, who does not live in work and in love, gradually loosens up.

Thomas and Hanna, a deliriously happy couple in their late 30s, buy an old house in the country with plans to fix it up over the summer. Hanna is looking forward to their time together – so when Thomas invites his older brother, Friedrich, who is deeply depressed over the failure of both his business and his marriage, to join them, she is disappointed by the intrusion. Easygoing, charming, and talkative, Thomas seeks to counterbalance the cloudier mood with an impetuous frenzy of activity, but Hanna retreats into sullenness and retaliates by bringing in her nubile young godchild Augustine until things smooth themselves out. Augustine’s youthful sexiness has anything but a soothing impact on Thomas, however, whose adolescent impulses linger just below the surface.

As he tries to bridge the gap between the little girl he left long ago and the woman who grew up without her father, Sam learns he was never cut-out to be emotionally connected to anyone - unless he falls in love with another soul just as lonesome.

Fauli plays himself as the overlooked film director who never gets recognition. He is frustrated to a maniacal degree that everyone seems to win prizes which in his opinion rightfully belongs to him. Thus, he looks up Thomas Vinterberg and trashes him for winning this year's Natsværmerpris (awarded by the Natfilm Festival).

Two creatures, one named "Something", the other named "Something Else" try to co-exist peacefully despite the fact that they are complete opposites. Imagine The Odd Couple as if it were done by Dr. Suess and you've got the basic idea.
